Camera traps are digital cameras that are connected to infrared sensors, allowing them to record warm moving objects like snow leopards. These cameras have been placed sporadically throughout the region and left to record data for extended periods of time. Over the past ten years, we have installed over 120 traps, with 25 cameras spread throughout three valleys from early December to April. By examining the camera trap data, we are able to determine the species’ population numbers and monitor its rise and fall over time.
