In a complementary effort to reduce livestock mortality, BWCDO carried out two rounds of a livestock vaccination campaign in 2015 with assistance from the Snow Leopard Network. Vaccinations against Mange, Foot and Mouth, Anthrax, and Brucellosis which kill between 10 and 15 percent of a farmer’s livestock annually have been given to over 20,000 animals. The number of livestock this program has saved from disease greatly outnumbers the amount of livestock taken each year by snow leopards. This disincentivizes farmers from wanting to retaliate against snow leopards and instead encourages them to work closer with BWCDO.
